DAWSON is proud to be the exclusive sponsor for a special Honolulu film screening of Moananuiākea on August 25th at the Doris Duke Theatre in partnership with Hawaii Public Radio. This powerful documentary directed by Na‘alehu Anthony celebrates the voyaging canoe Hōkūle‘a’s historic Mālama Honua worldwide voyage that connected countless individuals and communities from around the globe. It was a voyage that also represented the fulfillment of the vision of navigator Nainoa Thompson and his contemporaries—the passing of the mantle to the next generation of kānaka maoli (Native Hawaiians) who will retain the skills of their ancestors and perpetuate this tradition for generations to come.
In addition to this sponsorship, DAWSON has several ongoing connections to Hōkūle‘a and the Polynesian Voyaging Society. Cultural Advisor Derek “Kekaulike” Mar from our Honolulu office is a crew member and participated in the Worldwide Voyage. For the past several years Kekaulike has also led DAWSON impact initiatives in Hawaii to provide logistic and dry-dock services to Hōkūle‘a.
