Children who may otherwise be lost in a court system are being reunited with their mothers whose lives are being transformed at Grace House San Antonio, a faith-based transition home for women recovering from addiction and substance abuse. Last year DAWSON installed a playground and delivered more than 30 gifts to the Grace House women to give to their children at Christmas. The ladies’ incredibly grateful hearts, newfound joy, hope, and freedom in life has been contagious.

After the New Year, one of DAWSON’s program managers attended Grace House’s annual fundraising dinner where he heard that the home had only two antiquated computers for 14 ladies. That employee approached our IT department wondering if there was a way to help. Wouldn’t you know it, we had 14 lightly-used laptops in storage – perfect! Shayne Jenkins ensured the laptops were pristine and customized for the women. The next weekend, Shayne, along with Kelly Reynolds, delivered those 14 laptops to an elated Grace House! As you can imagine, computers are vital for the staff’s bookkeeping and correspondence.

For the women in recovery, becoming proficient in online research and applications is necessary as they prepare to reengage with the job market and in their role as mothers. Two of the computers will be for staff use. Two will be for the ladies to have monitored use while they live at the home. The other 10 laptops will be gifts to the ladies upon their graduation from the program. Having their very own Shayne-furbished laptop as they build a new life is an absolute treasure for them! MAHALO to Shayne Jenkins, Rob Tennyson, Alan Reynolds, Andrew Riehemann, Kelly Reynolds, and Shail Jondhale for initiating and implementing this awesome new way for DAWSON to Live Aloha and precipitate positive ripple effects in our local communities!
